New fan apparel allows you to cheer teams on in style

There was once a father who loved sports very much. He wanted his daughters and wife to love them, too. So he bought them all matching jerseys — and tickets to the game.

They loved the game. They loved their dad and husband.

The jerseys — not so much.

They just didn’t look, very, well, fashionable. They didn’t even fit.

But it didn’t have to be that way. Gone are the days when fans could only cheer in their team in oversized, shapeless jerseys and T-shirts. A new generation of fan apparel for women, men and children lets fans flaunt their team pride in style.

“The last few years have seen so many more options for women and children — and more trend conscious young men,” says Cleveland Browns Team Shop General Manager Georgette Elias. “Women are our fastest growing market. It used to be you had to buy a small men’s jersey — not anymore.”

Now you can be a serious female sports fan, and still look seriously good.

It’s a trend seen across the sports world.”Fans are looking for something different and unique. Something you could wear out on the street, or to the game,” says Amanda Marshall, senior buyer for the Cavaliers Team Shop.

“Fashion colors are huge, as are fitted, more trendy looks for women. Even for men you’re seeing more of a fashion style, with a V-neck or fitted shirt.”

Kurt Schloss, Indians Director of Merchandising, says trendier looks are also big for baseball.

“There are a number of suppliers that are providing a more athletic cut for men and women — shorter sleeves, a tighter fit, finer cotton. Appliques also give it a more hip, retro feel.”

And don’t forget the bling. Glitter, rhinestones, metallic studs . . you’ll find them all on fan gear now.

They Indians even have a $145 jersey with Swarovski crystals in their Tribe Pride for Her store.

Retro look are also huge, especially with style conscious younger men. It’s a movement that started in the fashion forward NBA, which takes many of its cues from urban street wear.

“Our Hardwood Classics do really well, playing on our old colors and logos from the ’80s and ’90s,” says the Cavs Marshall, ”

The Browns also have a vintage-inspired line.

“Vintage does really well,” says Brett Reynolds, Browns Vice President of Marketing “It sells no matter how the team does. It transcends wins and losses — there’s that connection with the team and its history.”

In honor of tomorrow’s Cleveland Browns season kickoff, click through our phoro gallery for some winning looks that will let you and your family cheer on the team in style.

Salon vs. At-Home Hair Color

Do-it-yourself hair color sounds easy enough because you simply mix, apply, and rinse. This basic 3-step system has worked for men and women of all ages for years; however, the trend has become even more popular over the last 4 years due to the shady economy. And while getting your hair done every month may have been the “thing” to do, it’s no longer economically viable for some people.

Luckily, home dye kits are affordable at only a fraction of the cost of a salon trip – not to mention convenient! Technology has played a part in the improvement of home hair dying systems, and there are many more options to choose from these days.

Another upside to doing it yourself is being able to use an at-home hair dye kit any time of day or night, without making an appointment or even leaving the house. This convenience factor definitely beats having to wait for your appointment, then working around the stylist’s schedule.

Of course, there are also some reasons not to dye, bleach, highlight, or touch-up roots by yourself, and these things should be considered before trying to go it alone. Here are some of the most common mishaps that occur during an at-home color treatment.

At-Home Hair Coloring Mishaps

Trusting the Box

When you’re trying to choose a hair dye color in the store, the color can definitely be misleading. This is especially true when all you have to go by is a little picture on the side of the box, and a pretty model with perfect hair on the front. The color that you choose might seem like the perfect color on the box, but after you apply it, the product could be completely different than what you wanted.

Wrong Color Choice

There are a lot of questions that come up when you’re trying to find a new hair color such as the following:

  • What will look best with your skin tone?
  • Do you want to go lighter or darker than your natural hair color?
  • What color matches your style?
  • Do you like warm colors, cool colors or neutral colors?

To start answering these questions, keep in mind that your own hair color plays an important role in the dyeing process, as well as with the overall health of your hair. And be advised that not all hair absorbs color evenly, and if you’re not careful, you can end up with splotchy color.

Hot Roots

This is what salon stylists call roots that are brighter and more intense than the rest of your hair. Hot roots occur when the whole head of hair is colored, but the roots become over-processed due to the heat from your head. Also, the ends of hair are more porous, and able to absorb more color, which leaves you with bright roots and dark tips over time.

This problem happens to a lot of women who use home dye kits, and it can be avoided by visiting a salon because they use different types of hair color on the roots and tips to ensure even color. Salon stylists may also use more than 2 formulas in order to give your even hair color. So next time you’re thinking of dyeing your hair at home, consider ditching the box and visiting a salon.

Missed Spots

Having missed spots is a regular occurrence with home hair dye systems. After all, it’s easy to miss some spots when you’re dyeing your own hair because you can’t always cover the hard-to-reach areas. You might miss large chunks of hair, and if you don’t have any way of seeing the back of your head, there’s an 80% chance of this happening. The chances of missing spots lessen with the help of a friend; however, your friend won’t always know the best technique to use.

Also worth noting is that, when you’re trying to cover up gray hair, it can be incredibly embarrassing to miss spots. The same is true with trying to achieve an entirely different color – for example, going black to blonde. So once again, a trip to the salon might be worth the money in order to avoid missing spots.

Damaging Treatments

Your hair can become damaged after just one bad coloring mishap. And it isn’t easy gaining the health of your hair back after it gets damaged from this, or other styling tools and treatments. Fortunately, when you go to a salon, the stylists are able to tell you things like if your hair is starting to become damaged, products you can use to help maintain your hair color, and advise you to take a break from using hair treatments on your hair.

You might not be able to spot damaged hair as quickly as a stylist because they’ve been trained to know what to look for, and are educated on how to repair it. Salon stylists can also suggest products to combine to help your hair recover, as well as products to avoid for color-treated hair. For instance, some hair lighteners used in combination with certain dyes can cause hair to fry, and they can also burn your scalp. In contrast to this, salon stylists will use professional products, thus leaving you a less likely candidate for scalp irritation and damaged hair.

If you’ve used an at-home dye kit already and didn’t get the results you were hoping for, visit a salon for advice. Stylists are able to fix your accidents, and help you get the color you want. Sure it won’t be as inexpensive as the at-home coloring systems, or as fast, but youll be closer to the look you’re trying to achieve this way.

So to sum things up, at-home dye kits work fine for people with short hair and for someone looking for a quick fix; but if you truly care about the quality of color, salons are the place to go. Just keep in mind that not every stylist is going to be perfect, so do some research before you make an appointment. It’s important to talk to your stylist about concerns and expectations easily because if she isn’t able to answer your questions, then she might not have enough experience or skill to color your hair.

In the year 2011, quality will be an important criterion for the adoption of various hair trends. Embellishment will certainly affect fashion trends but not on big scales like previous years. Do not expect many women to focus on hair trends that are centered on accessories and other adornments.

Hair trends with natural appeal will be more popular in the year 2011 and double hair knot hairstyle can do just that. Double hair knot is basically an amplification of braided and plaited hairstyles that have been very popular in last two years. The hairstyle usually sits on an area close to the nape of your neck. You can even go for a single knot hairstyle. However, double knots appear more interesting. Also, double knots are tighter and they keep your hairs in place.

Braided Topknot Hairstyle

Popular hair trends in the year 2011 are more likely to be dominated by hair styles and not specific haircuts. In last few years, women as well men have shifted their focus towards hair styles from haircuts. The reason behind this shift is quite obvious. A hair style allows you tremendous freedom to re-style quickly and frequently. Who wouldn’t you want to try new hair trends on a regular basis?

Braided topknot will continue to be a popular hair trend in the year 2011. However, many hairstylists have begun to renovate this hairstyle a bit. In coming months, you may find some interesting fusions of braided topknot and other hair trends. This hairstyle was particularly inspired by catwalks.

Bird’s Nest Bun Hairstyle

Bird’s nest burn hairstyle has already been picked up by a large number of women. You might have seen stunning beauties with bird’s nest bun hairstyle in many catwalks. It was in Spring 2010 when this hairstyle first got popular.

In the year 2011, this hairstyle has successfully moved from catwalks to the prestigious red carpet. It is a hairstyle that women choose for some very special events in their life.

One of the most popular hair trends in the year 2011, bird’s nest bun hairstyle first made news during Lanvin spring runway 2010. This year, bird’s nest bun hairstyle is likely to get more evolved. This hairstyle may come out victoriously at the end of 2011 because it is elegant in its own right. Bird’s nest bun is not going to give you a messy or wispy appearance. However, it will make you look elegant.

A runway hair trend, bird’s nest bun has successfully got itself on the red carpet as well. With some fantastic headbands, bird’s nest bun hairstyle looks even better. It is just one of a few potential hairstyles in the year 2011 that make use of any kind of embellishments. This hair trend was termed as powderpuff by Caterina DiBiase. In the year, women are likely to use headbands more beautifully with this hairstyle. Also, leaving a few lose pieces of hair to achieve an appealing wispy look is becoming a trend.

Waved Bob Hairstyle

Waved bob is back in the year 2011. Women who already have a waved bob hairstyle can try out a few more interesting variations. Young as well as mature women can make use of waved bob hairstyle in the year 2011.

Shoe Fashion Trends

Have you ever heard the saying ‘head over heels in love’? Well, it doesn’t always refer to a woman’s love of a man. It may refer to a much stronger love – a woman’s love of trendy shoes. Women across the world have always been love-sick over these trends. For this article, let’s talk about the shoe trends from last year to this year.

In the fall, boot trends are always the thing to watch. Many women were very glad because comfortable flat boots and riding boots remained in style. You probably saw many trendy suede and leather flat boots in nude and neutral colors, which easily matched all outfits. Many of these suede and leather flat boots had tassels or harness details, which I think, added an interesting touch.

In addition to these boots, cowboy boots also appeared this past fall season. The famous Frye cowboy boots were seen on many celebrity feet in magazines and television. Cowboy and flat riding boots, in general, are trendy to wear with jeans or leggings tucked into them, as well as with dresses and opaque or patterned tights. Ugg boots were not as trendy this year as they were in the past several years. Other than boots, ballet flats were also a popular trend this fall. Ballet flats were commonly worn with skinny jeans, leggings and tights.

In the winter, many women were worried about wearing their trendy shoes as they fear it will get ruined by snow and rain. However, a true fashionista learns how to manage and wears their trendy shoes in the winter. Actually, being caught in ugly shoes is much greater than their fear of ruining their trendy shoes. A ruined trendy shoe can always be replaced, but the ruined reputation of a fashionista is incurable. This is based from a general observation that I had.

This winter, suede heels were very popular. However, the biggest shoe trend this past winter was colorful pumps. You could find high-heeled pumps in every color imaginable this past winter. The pop of color was a great way to spruce up drab winter outfits in gray and black. High-heeled, knee-length leather boots with tabs to pull them up were also very popular. These could be seen worn with skinny jeans tucked into them or with tights and a cute dress.

Another boot trend this past winter was ankle boots. Both flat and wedge heel ankle boots enjoyed popularity this past winter. You also probably witnessed many heels adorned with metal spikes, which gave the classic heel a sexy dominatrix vibe. Additionally, shoes with fur in cheetah and leopard prints were very popular this winter. If you bought a cheetah or leopard printed fur shoe, you may want to hang on to them for next year because they are projected to remain popular next fall and winter.

Spring is one of the hottest seasons for trendy shoes. Last spring, one of the most popular trends was nude shoes. Shoes in every shade of beige could be spotted on the shelves of high end designer boutiques and on low end retailers. These nude shoes made fashionistas so happy because they literally matched everything without even trying.

Peep toed pumps were also popular again this year. Peep toed pumps could be found in a cheerful array of colors and prints last spring. Ballet flats were also popular for the spring, but that was no surprise as ballet flats have been trendy for several years now. I have seen a lot of shoes with perforations this past spring, which I had not seen in quite some time. Casual sneakers with rubber toes (think reminiscent of the classic “Chuck” style Converse sneaker) were also popular this spring. Another popular sneaker trend was a cross between a sneaker and a boating shoe, which was popularly seen in shades of navy, red and white.

Summer is the time for open toed sandals to show off those pedicures. One of the biggest summer trends this year has been the “caged” high-heeled shoes, which feature a crisscross style of leather across the foot and ankle, resulting to a foot looking like it is trapped in a cage. These sexy little caged shoes have been seen on the feet of many celebrities; they were all over magazines. Fortunately, they are relatively easy to walk in because the strap around the ankle helps fashionistas keep their balance. Falling in heels is never sexy, no matter how trendy the heels are.

Another popular trend last summer was colorful sandals. However, colorful sandals are usually trendy in the summer, so there is really no surprise there. Braided flat leather sandals in nude colors have been very trendy this summer, as well. Additionally, wedges and espadrilles have been very popular for the summer. Wedges and espadrilles are fabulous because they are easy to walk in and you never have to worry about getting a heel stuck in the grass at an outdoor party. As such, most fashionistas fully embrace this trend. Cork heels and cork wedges have also been very popular this summer.

One trendy shoe that has been popular for all seasons is the rubber rain boot. I am not talking about your father’s old rain boots here. It’s about the bright colored rain boots with cute prints all over them. This trend likely caught on because of functionality, rather than cuteness, but it’s probably still safe to call them cute. Especially in the cities, you could spot fashionistas strut their stuff in rain boots with dresses, jeans, leggings and even tights. The Hunter brand rain boots have been very popular. Unfortunately, the Hunter boots can run around $100 in price. The good thing though is it has been easy to find cheaper boots made by other brands that are just as cute.
