New fan apparel allows you to cheer teams on in style

There was once a father who loved sports very much. He wanted his daughters and wife to love them, too. So he bought them all matching jerseys — and tickets to the game.

They loved the game. They loved their dad and husband.

The jerseys — not so much.

They just didn’t look, very, well, fashionable. They didn’t even fit.

But it didn’t have to be that way. Gone are the days when fans could only cheer in their team in oversized, shapeless jerseys and T-shirts. A new generation of fan apparel for women, men and children lets fans flaunt their team pride in style.

“The last few years have seen so many more options for women and children — and more trend conscious young men,” says Cleveland Browns Team Shop General Manager Georgette Elias. “Women are our fastest growing market. It used to be you had to buy a small men’s jersey — not anymore.”

Now you can be a serious female sports fan, and still look seriously good.

It’s a trend seen across the sports world.”Fans are looking for something different and unique. Something you could wear out on the street, or to the game,” says Amanda Marshall, senior buyer for the Cavaliers Team Shop.

“Fashion colors are huge, as are fitted, more trendy looks for women. Even for men you’re seeing more of a fashion style, with a V-neck or fitted shirt.”

Kurt Schloss, Indians Director of Merchandising, says trendier looks are also big for baseball.

“There are a number of suppliers that are providing a more athletic cut for men and women — shorter sleeves, a tighter fit, finer cotton. Appliques also give it a more hip, retro feel.”

And don’t forget the bling. Glitter, rhinestones, metallic studs . . you’ll find them all on fan gear now.

They Indians even have a $145 jersey with Swarovski crystals in their Tribe Pride for Her store.

Retro look are also huge, especially with style conscious younger men. It’s a movement that started in the fashion forward NBA, which takes many of its cues from urban street wear.

“Our Hardwood Classics do really well, playing on our old colors and logos from the ’80s and ’90s,” says the Cavs Marshall, ”

The Browns also have a vintage-inspired line.

“Vintage does really well,” says Brett Reynolds, Browns Vice President of Marketing “It sells no matter how the team does. It transcends wins and losses — there’s that connection with the team and its history.”

In honor of tomorrow’s Cleveland Browns season kickoff, click through our phoro gallery for some winning looks that will let you and your family cheer on the team in style.

Hair Styling Tips for Short Hair

Going short is becoming popular these days, but once you’ve chopped all of your hair off, what do you do with it? If you have the basic hair tools like a straightener, a curling iron, a blow-dryer, mousse, hairspray and anti-frizz serum, you’re off to a good start already. But even with the right tools, it can be challenging to pull off a short hair style no matter how easy the women on TV make it look. Since you don’t have a team of stylists following you around, you need to take matters into your own hands. This being said, here are some hair styling tips use can use when styling your short hair.

Short Hair Style

6 Tips for Styling Short Hair

Choose the Right Shape

The first thing to think about when getting a short hair style is the shape you want to have. There are a variety of short hair styles to choose from, and you should talk to a stylist about what would look good on you before taking the scissors to your strands. Take into consideration your face shape, face size, and hair type to avoid getting a hair style that is totally wrong for you.

For example:
You shouldn’t get a pixie cut if you have a long face because you’ll look too much like a boy! And remember: unlike a new blow-dryer, you can’t return the haircut you’ve purchased.

Body and Lift

The blow-dryer is one of the most versatile tools for adding body and lift to short hair, but not everyone knows how to use it. Just by using a round brush in combination with a blow-dryer, you are able to achieve more body and lift. A round thermal brush will give you the same look, but is sometimes troublesome if you get it stuck in your hair.

Use products designed to give more body, in combination with your blow-dryer and fingers to create a messy, but classy just-woke-up look.

Volume and Texture

For more volume and texture, dry your hair; when it is about half-dry, apply a dime-sized amount of styling gel, balm, or mousse to your hair. Work the product through starting underneath the hair, and begin blow drying using your fingers to tousle, lift, and tease your hair (or use a finger diffuser attachment on your dryer).

To get more fullness, section off small parts of your hair and blow dry your hair working from the tips up to the roots. To make the style more put-together, try using a curling iron to touch up the tips, and then add styling paste to add texture.

Smooth and Shiny

To get a smooth and shiny short-haired look, begin by using a towel to dry your hair as much as possible. The closer your hair gets to being dry, the closer it gets to its natural form. Plus, you will avoid stressing and damaging your hair by removing the bulk of the moisture, and you’ll save time by drying it too.

Once you’ve taken the extra moisture off, apply a styling product evenly throughout the hair, and begin sectioning your hair off with clips.

Clip the top layers so that you can start blow drying the under layers. Aim the dryer downward starting from the roots, and moving toward the tips using a bristle paddle brush; this will give you the smooth finish you want. Be sure that your hair is fully dry before starting on another layer of hair because if the hair isn’t dry, it will go back to its natural form.

Complete the style with a shine spray to take care of any frizz, and avoid brushing your hair once you’ve finished styling.

Hot Rollers and Curls

Dry hair thoroughly before using heated rollers; along with this, most stylists will suggest using hot rollers when hair hasn’t been washed recently. Cover your hair in hairspray before dividing it into even sections using a fine-toothed comb.

Start at the crown of your head, then work your way down the back, and finally to the sides. Comb the first section of your hair; then spray again before rolling it onto a roller.

You will get the best results by using sections that are smaller than the roller being used. Using a section of hair that is too big will lessen the tension, and make the curl less likely to hold. To help the hair stay in place, put a piece of paper between your hair and the roller, then roll your hair around the roller, and pull the ends until you don’t see the ends; this eliminates those annoying fish hooks.

Try twisting your hair before putting it on the rollers because this gives you more of a spiral curl than a bouncy curl.

Coloring Your Short Hair

Coloring your short hair is another big decision, and there are several things to take into account here like the color of your skin. When using skin tone to measure hair color, people divide skin tones into two sections: warm and cool.

Warm skin tones are olive, brown, or gold in color. Someone with a warm skin tone should avoid using cooler hair colors like black or dark brown because the contrast can sometimes be too harsh. People with cooler skin tones include those with blue-white, rose, or pale skin. Cool skin tones who use warm hair colors like red or light brown will also have harsh contrast.

If you decide to dye your hair or get highlights, it looks best when you go a shade or two darker (or lighter) than your natural hair color, so that you don’t have unattractive contrast.

In any case, short hair can be just as versatile and sexy as long hair, so don’t be afraid to change your hair length, color, and shape. You can play-up your new look by changing makeup and accessories to draw more attention to your face.

The best part of having short hair is being able to show off your neck, shoulders, and ears. So put some body shimmer lotion on your shoulders to highlight them, wear some big earrings, and wear a shirt that will show off your neck.

Neat Hairstyles for Naturally Curly Hair

curly hair can sometimes be a challenge. But it is also one of the most beautiful textures of hair to have. One of the main things you can do to keep your curly hair healthy is to give it plenty of moisture. A deep moisturizing treatment once a month at a salon or at home is essential for curly hair to control frizz and dryness. Use a moisturizing conditioner each time you shampoo and use frizz preventative products and styling products made for curly hair to give your curls definition and shine. You can wear your hair short, medium or long. Curly hair doesn’t mean you’re stuck in a rut; curly hair gives you many styling choices.

Hair Styles for Curly Hair

A very neat hairstyle for short curly hair is a pixie. Pixies were popular in the 1960’s and 1970’s and their appeal has never faded from fashion. You can have a closed cropped pixie or leave your hair a bit longer. Use a styling paste to define your curls or give you a smoother look. Bangs are a cute addition and your stylist can tailor your cut to your facial shape.

Bobs are some of the most classic hairstyles and have been popular since the 1920’s. Have your stylist cut your hair a bit longer than you want it since curly hair draws up as it dries. You can have a graduated bob with the back shorter than the front; a stacked bob gives you a slightly more defined lock than a graduated bob and is also a good choice for short curly hair. Bobs can be very short, above your jaw line, at your jaw line or below your jaw line depending on how long you want your hair to be.

You may also want to consider a layered look. Layered cuts bring out the natural curl and body of your hair. If you opt for a layered cut ask your stylist for professional products to define your curls. This is a great cut to bring out the natural beauty of curly hair and is practically maintenance free. With a layered cut you will be able to wash and go.

For a more polished look choose a medium length or long blunt cut. The longer you have your hair – the looser you curl will be. This is because the weight of your hair pulls your curls down and makes them looser. Use a large barrel curling iron to define your curls. Always use heat protective products before you use any high heat tools like curling irons and flat irons to protect your hair from breakage and damage. You can control the tightness of your curls with the diameter of the barrel of your curling iron.

For special occasions, pull your hair up in a messy bun and let your curls fall. Up-dos are great hairstyles for curly hair. You can wear your hair half up and let your natural curls fall down your back. Add some pretty hair clips or pins for an extra bit of glam. Curly hair is beautiful. Embrace your natural curls and try out some of these neat hairstyles for curly hair.

What Characterizes Asian Style Fashion?

When one thinks of Asian style fashion, one thinks of Geisha Girls and kimonos. But it is much more than that!  When I did some research into this subject, I noticed that there was a very eclectic and diverse variety. Most of the photos I have seen included from Japan and Korea.

When I googled images of ‘Asian style fashion’, I came up with a plethora of different styles. The most notable is the bobbed ‘pixie’ style haircut.  Unnatural dye jobs for hair are also quite prevalent in Asian fashion. The colors can range from pink, to purple, to green and combinations of these.  These beautiful ladies much resemble characters from Japanese animated programming. The use of hair spray and sculpturing is also quite noticeable. Not to be outdone by the hairstyles, the dress itself has quite a western appeal. Many of the young ladies pictured have on form fitting t-shirts, with either pedal pusher type jeans, short Capri-style French cut jeans, or shirt flouncy skirts with leggings underneath. These will usually have stripes or plaid.  A variation is the thigh-high sock, usually white, with chunky platform shoes to give height.

Nail art is also a characteristic of Asian style fashion.  Many of the models pictured in my Google search had manicures that varied from anything to decals to fancy paint jobs.

I think many of the Asian models like to emulate Lady GaGa with her unique looks. I am seeing images galore of bathing suits (bikini tops and bottoms mostly) being used as street wear, topped with thigh socks, high heels, and a shrug-type jacket, a neck tie, scarf, and of course the wild hair. Asian women also like to incorporate menswear into their wardrobes, since you will often see what looks like a private school uniform with a man’s button down shirt and a tie.

My favorite of all the Asian style fashion trends is the prevalence of bold prints and Paisleys.  These look the best, in my opinion, on maxi dresses. They are a toned down version of the classic kimono, and often have flouncy princess skirts. Short dresses have too much deserved attention, since many of these are strapless numbers with oversized bows on them. These come in classic colors and are usually made of silk, satin or similar shiny material.  Floral prints, paisley prints and plaids seem to be very popular.

Of course Asian fashion should not be limited to The Pacific Rim and countries like Korea, Laos, and Japan.  India should be included in the mix too. Indian women wear the traditional sari in both short and long styles.  The hair is much different than the Japanese/Korean counterparts.  The hairstyle most frequently seen is a knee length braid.  These are either natural or extensions.

Since tattoos are popular, henna tattoos that usually last about two weeks are also pretty apparent and prevalent.  Henna tattoos look like the real deal, and cost just as much sometimes, but they have the added benefit of being semi-permanent. If the wearer decides at a later date not to sport a tattoo, or wants a change in design, they can easily make the switch to a different one or go without one entirely.

As far as makeup, the current trend is to make the eyes look as large as possible. This is achieved either by contact lenses that give that effect, or techniques with mascara, shadow, and a combination of eyebrow shaping and eyeliner to complete the effect.

The only thing about Asian style fashion that one must consider is that it will not work for everyone.  It will work best on a woman with a small, angular frame, and who weighs less than one hundred and fifty pounds.  Since this fashion trend is varied, one can always experiment with the looks depending upon body type, and colors that flatter the skin tone.
